postheadericon Top Five Pet Health And Safety Tips For Camping With Your Dog

One of the activities I look forward to most this summer is camping with my newly adopted dog, Jayda. It’s been an adventure for both of us! When “roughing it” together, you can ensure the pet health and safety of your four-legged friend by keeping these top five tips in mind:

Protect pet health by talking to your vet about flea and tick prevention
Before heading out into the great wide open with your pet, consider the dog health care needs for flea and tick prevention. Talk to your veterinarian about where you’ll be camping, trends in the region, and the overall health of your dog. If you have the Pets Best Insurance BestWellness plan, remember you can submit the claim for a limited amount reimbursement.

Keep your dog warm at night
Dogs lose heat from their noses, so they hide them when they’re cold. In addition to a favorite bed, offer your dog blankets to burrow under. Dogs with short coats may even need an extra layer like a doggie sweater.

Pack extra dog food Camping activities burn lots of extra calories. Be generous with food if you’ve had an especially active day, and take two containers in case one becomes wet or is gobbled up by a woodland creature. Also, don’t be alarmed if your dog skips meals. For some animals, the stress of travel is an appetite suppressant. However, if your pet’s appetite isn’t back to normal after the trip is over, take your dog to your veterinarian to make sure there isn’t another pet health issue.

Invest in a good tie-out stake and choose the right ground location
A metal corkscrew tie-out stake and 20-foot lead will allow your dog to safely enjoy the campsite. Check the stake often as tugging and wet conditions can loosen it, especially in sandy ground.

Take a variety of collars and leashes with you
Camping offers great new places to work with your dog and activities that are great for pet health. If you’re still training your pet, bring a variety of leashes. I use a 15-foot lead and prong collar for training sessions, and a regular collar when she’s on a short leash or tie-out. For swimming and hiking, a harness helps me control her movements and ensures she’s safe.

Make a “doggie camping bag” and keep a checklist inside
Designate a sturdy canvass bag as your “doggie camping bag” and keep a checklist inside it year-round so pet health and safety are never compromised by forgetting an important camping item. My list includes, food, a tie-out stake, a variety of collars and leashes, and bedding. It sounds like common sense, but even the most basic items can be forgotten when you’re rushing out the door for a weekend of fun.

Jayda and I are preparing for our third camping trip this weekend, and I like to think we’re getting better at it every time. We hope you find these tips helpful and use them to ensure the pet health and safety of your camping buddy in the great outdoors. Happy camping!

postheadericon The World’s Top Five Most Popular Travel Destinations

Have you ever wondered where the most popular places in the world are to visit? Based on the number of annual visitors each year the top five include Paris, London, Bangkok, Singapore and New York City.

Sitting at the top of the world’s most popular travel destinations, Paris attracts around 15.6 million visitors ever year. It’s prominent location within the centre of Western Europe makes it easy for Europeans as well as countless other visitors from all around the world.

While most people immediately think of the Eiffel Tower when they think of Paris, there is so much more to France’s capital city. From the popular Louvre museum to hidden cafes on the sidestreets of Paris, there is plenty to see and do at the world’s most popular travel destination.

Second on the list is London, Europe’s largest city. Every year London attracts around 14.8 million visitors and it’s easy to see why.

From Buckingham Palace to Trafalgar Square, there is so much to see and do in London, it’s hard to fit it all in. Even for those who have seen all of the monuments and historical attractions before, there is plenty to explore in London’s booming nightclub and restaurant scene, both of which guarantee evenings of endless pleasure.

In third place Bangkok, Thailand’s capital city attracts just under eleven million visitors per year. It’s beautiful beaches, cheap accommodation and exotic food make it a popular destination with all travellers although particularly backpackers.

Most backpackers immediately flock to the Khao San road, one of the world’s most popular backpacker destinations. Here travellers from all over the world, armed with little more than a backpack, passport and maybe travel insurance come to enjoy one of Bangkok’s most vibrant streets.

From hostels to nightclubs, markets to restaurants, everything is on this street along with thousands of other travellers and explorers.

Next on the list, Singapore City attracts about 10 million visits every year. Of all the top give cities, few pay such attention to the cleanliness of their city as Singapore. Chewing gum while tolarised is pretty much banned here. Although it is legal to chew it yourself if you are caught giving it to someone else you can land yourself in some travel.

Finally New York City, the world’s fifth most popular city needs no introduction. Home to countless attractions from the Statue of Liberty to Central Park, there is so much to see and do in this city, the problem is finding the time to fit it all in.

New York has something to suit every traveller from expensive restaurants and shows for the high class traveller to inexpensive attractions for the traveller on a budget. And of course in the city that never sleeps, there is plenty to do in New York at any time of the day or night.

With so much to do and even more to see at each of these five destinations, it’s easy to see why they are so popular.
